Murat Özyer

Necdet Murat Özyer (born in 31 March 1966, İstanbul) is a Turkish former national basketballer and presently a coach. He currently coaches Galatasaray Café Crown.

[edit] Coaching career

Özyer had begun his coaching career at Galatasaray, where he managed the starlet and youth teams from 1983 to 1993. Then he joined Ülkerspor and handled to the foundation period of its youth team. After that, he coached the youth team between 1993-1996. Subsequently, he was tasked as assistant-coach of senior team and achieved the TBL title twice in 1997-98 and 2000-01 seasons. In March 2006, he was appointed as the coach of Ülkerspor seniors[1] and reached the league title, after Ergin Ataman's resignation.

After his spelling at Ülkerspor, he joined Galatasaray in 2006-07 season and had a successful season with reaching the semi-finals of the league play-offs.

In most recent season, Galatasaray participated the ULEB Cup 2007-08 Final Eight and beaten its domestic fierce rival Beşiktaş in quarters.[2] However, they have been eliminated in semi-finals by Spanish side DKV Joventut. Subsequently, the team was beaten by Türk Telekom B.K. after a 3–0 serie in play-off semis.

Özyer is married to Derya Özyer. He is an alumni of Galatasaray High School. Then he studied at Business Administration Department of Marmara University to get his graduation.
