Murasel is the appellation, or handle, of the individual or individuals responsible for uploading information about the activities of al-qaeda's sunni umbrella group known as the Mujahideen Shura Council in a blog found at blogspot.com. The Mujahideen Shura Council is comprised of at least six known militant groups currently operating in Iraq, these are; Jeish al-Taiifa al-Mansoura (Army of the Victorius Sect), Monotheism Supporters Brigades, Saray al-Jihad Group, al-Ghuraba Brigades, al-Ahwad Brigades and al-Qaeda in Iraq.

The identity of the individual or individuals operating under the name Murasel is at present unknown. The blog that Murasel edits is primarily a source of propaganda for the Mujahedeen Shura Council and its constituent parts. Murasel appears to edit and add to the blog on a daily or weekly basis. All attacks on United States, Iraqi or allied forces by the Shura Council are reported by Murasel and couched in terms of gratitude to Allah.

The individual or individuals who are Murasel are not likely to be someone in a command post or leadership position within the Mujahideen Shura Council as the Arabic word Murasel roughly translates as 'Office Boy' in English. [1]

On Monday, July the 24th Murasel posted a declaration of war upon the Mahdi Army, labeling them as apostates and dogs. The Mujahideen Shura Council's "military wing" is referred to as Faylaq Omar, a reference to the historic split between shi'as (paritsans of Ali) and sunnis. [2]
