Muppala Lakshmana Rao alias Ganapati is present General Secretary of Communist Party of India (Maoist). He was born in village Beerpur in Sarangapur mandal in Karimnagar district of Andhra Pradesh. He worked as teacher in Karimnagar district and deserted his job for higher education in Warangal. There, he met Maoist leaders Nalla Adi Reddy and Kondapalli Seetharamaiah and he joined naxalite movement. He was one of the early members of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) People's War and grew as General Secretary of the party that is now called as Communist Party of India (Maoist).
