List Of Suburbs

I'm thinking this could be deleted. We have a category for suburbs of Perth which I suggest does the same job. Having said that, what's the normal wiki way to preserve a list of uncreated articles, sort of a ToDo list? SweenyTod 13:10, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

Oh well - you want to put them all suburbs of perth? The whole reason why the suburbs were put in there is that what's within the local government area. Perth is not the local government. I could be very wrong, but i suspect that wiki is an exploration in showing how things fit into biggger things. sorry can't answer your other questionvcxlor 14:08, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

No, you're right. I didn't realise that it was both a suburb description, and list of suburbs within the Shire of Mundaring. Perhaps it needs a category for the shire? SweenyTod 14:13, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

I haven't done a thorough check of other oz states to see if they have the local gov with lists inside or not, maybe another state has good examples of how to do it. perhaps mundaring needs a disambig for mundaring the place, the shire, the weir, etcvcxlor 23:57, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

  • It is appropriate to have a single article that covers two aspects of the same place. See, for example, Laverton, Western Australia, which treats both the town of Laverton and the Shire of Laverton; and see Margaret River, Western Australia, which treats both the town and the river. On the other hand, it is also often appropriate to cover each aspect separately; see for example Southwest, Western Australia, which disambiguates separate articles for the governmental region, the ecoregion and the drainage division. I guess the choice is up to whoever wants to invest effort in the article. Hesperian 00:55, 12 July 2005 (UTC)
    • Ok, thanks for that. What is the wiki method for standardising information on a page? I can see that if we have a number of articles on suburbs that also double as an article about the Shire they are in, it might be nice to have them with all the same formatting and information. Or is that also something usually left to the individual authors? SweenyTod 01:20, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Followup on 'Suburbs of Perth' and 'Suburbs of Mundaring' categories

Having had the Mundaring Suburbs (strictly they are actually localities in Mundaring) category created - there is now the problem that some localities in Mundaring are actually outside of the Metropolitan Area as is recognised by the state government, so they a really localities -not suburbs! Also, the placing of perth-stub against perth suburbs that are correctly inside the metro area - there appear to be no other suburbs in other local govt areas in perth with perth stubs - so are they correct or not? SatuSuro 14:24, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Also Mundaring council has just erected signs at the edge of each area with a sign "Locality of Mundaring" SatuSuro 04:29, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
I think "locality" was always the formal name (there's a sign in suburban Gwelup to that effect too) - although the Gazetteer recognises a difference between LOCB and SUB. Orderinchaos 07:11, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
