Munterconnaught is a small parish on the coast of Lough Ramor, Ireland, County Cavan. Munterconnaught is a beautiful area consisting of drumlin country, lush farmland and lakeshore real estate. The name Munterconnaught has often been mistaken as being derived from the Irish Muintir meaning people and Connacht being the western province. However it actually has nothing to do with this and is named after Choncur, one of the 13 sons of the O' Reilly's of Bhreffni. The O' Reilly Clan ruled the area of Cavan & Leitrim which was known as Bhreffni for centuries.
From a small rural community languishing in a sleepy mode Munterconnaught has turned into a vibrant hive of activity, partly because of the influx of people from surrounding counties and partly because of the highly educated and articulate workforce that has invigourated the local community.
Munterconnaught is very proud of its thriving Gaelic Athletic Association club, who have won many championships and leagues since its re-affiliation in 1969. They have been successful in every decade from their formation in 1926 and this indeed is a proud record. Local Celebrities includes the well renowned singer songwriter Austin Tighe, and actor Liam Riddley, who had a recurring role as "Muscles" in the television series Glenroe.
