Municipal Police (France)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Municipal Police (French: Police Municipale) are the local level of law enforcement in France. Under the direction of the local Mairie, they have limited powers of public order preservation and the enforcement of bylaws and minor traffic offences. They may only be armed if the préfet of the département consents - they are most of time armed with tonfas and revolvers. There are 17973 municipal police officers consisting of 12.8% the total French law enforcement community.
