Municipal Liberia is a Costa Rican football team playing at the top level in the Primera Division. It is based in Liberia. Their home stadium is Estadio Edgardo Baltodano Briceño. The team was bought by Mario Sotela, by the beginning of this year. The team is now being called "Municipal Liberia Mia", due to the fact that the co-owner Mario Sotela has a project that is also located in Liberia that is called "Africa Mia" (it is a special zoo based only on African animals and species). A new stadium was announced, its building will start by the end of 2007 or the beginning of 2008, it is expected to be within "Africa Mia" or nearby. For this season Liberia Mia has signed a large amount of important players, from important clubs in the league and has earned a lot of expectations from fans around the country. Benigno Guido returned to geing the head coach for the team, after three lousy appearances under Nicola Philibert's orders (3 losses). With remarcable players such as Alvaro Mesen, Michael Umaña, Esteban Sirias, Max Sanchez, Rolando Fonseca, William Sunsing and Allan Aleman, all of them former or current national players, the growing group of fans has really high hopes and expectations. Rolando Fonseca left the club in the middle of december, apparently for personal reasons.
