Munich International School (MIS) is a private international school located in Starnberg, south of Munich, Germany. MIS teaches students from EC (Early Child - years 4-5) to grade 12. Students travel from a large area around Munich to attend the school, with the help of an extensive school bus network that reaches into much of the area around Starnberg.

MIS is a recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) school. Lessons are taught in English, and German is the compulsory second language. MIS offers Spanish and French as third language options.

[edit] History

On September 19, 1966, the school opened the doors of its building on Harthauserstrasse in Harlaching to 120 students. That same day, the then headmaster, Weert Hunersen, and Walter Feuchtwanger collected the school's official license for operation.

Two years after its establishment, the school was moved to a new campus in Percha, a small hamlet on the outskirts of Starnberg. The Buchof Schloss, which is a 130 year old Bavarian castle, is the oldest building on the campus, and is used by the school for classes, as well as housing the School's server room.

[edit] Academics

MIS offers all three programmes of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) - International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP), International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP), IB Diploma programme (IBDP).

[edit] Extracurricular Activities

Sport is regarded as in important activity at MIS, with sport being a required element of the student's schedules. However, IB students are only required to do one term of Physical Education during their two-year course. The school also has a weight room with exercise equipment for students to use, as well as an outdoor hardtop area with tennis and basketball courts.

The school organizes an annual Ski Trip for students, the first being a trip to Kirchberg in Austria in 1967 which was attended by forty-nine students.
