Talk:Multiplex

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the "Kernel (Computers)" page it states "It is responsible for providing secure multiplexing" and the word multiplexing links to this page. The most relevant definition is #3, "In electronics a device that takes multiple inputs and combines them using time division" But that is much too vague and much too ambiguous to describe what is meant by multiplexing in operating systems. Perhaps it should refer to multitasking and/or multithreading. Or perhaps there should be a definition that begins "In computer operating systems, multiplexing refers to..."

P.S. I believe this comment should also go to the editors of the "Kernel (Computers)" page.

[edit] Highway multiplexing

If one of the highways could have ended at the other, that is a "stupid multiplex".

Is "stupid multiplex" the technical term for this? I thought something like [1] might be a "stupid multiplex". If you can't read the picture, it shows Highway 401 multiplexed with itself. --Timc 02:26, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Although this sign is now gone, a better picture: [2] --Timc 18:49, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)
A search for "stupid multiplex" on a search engine gives no relevant hits other than mirrors of this wiki --66.102.74.57 20:36, 21 Oct 2004 (UTC)
