The Term Multi-function Center is used almost exclusively by Brother Industries.[citation needed] Multi Function Center or MFC is a term used widely in the printer manufacturing world.[citation needed]
A new type of office hardware, it combines the functions of a printer, scanner, fax and photocopier to create a compact cost effective product. These can come in both Laser and Inkjet and have become very popular in the small or home office environment.
The MFC focuses at both the home and office by using different technology. To support the release of the inkjet version, Brother launched an advertising campaign in the UK in late 2005 and early 2006. Brother developed the ink capillary system which allows the ink to be stored away from the jet applicators allowing the printer to have a lower profile and quiet operation.
