Mullum-Mullum Creek

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mullum Mullum Creek is an environmentally-sensitive area[citation needed] in the east of Melbourne (Australia). The creek begins in Croydon and flows through Ringwood, Mitcham, and Donvale eventually flowing into the Yarra River at Tikalara Park Warrandyte. The creek, as well as being home to platypuses and Koalas, supports the eco-system of the surrounding valley.

The problems affecting the region are residential development and the construction of the EastLink tollway.

Under political pressure, the premier of Victoria, Steve Bracks, decided to build two 1.5km tunnels under the sensitive area.[citation needed] However, this was not good enough according to some residents who wanted a 3km tunnel to go under the entire area.[citation needed]

The Mullum Mullum Creek Trail runs along the banks in two sections the lower reaches of the creek.

One of the Eastlink tunnels were named after the creek.
