Mulligan's Stew was an NBC drama/comedy that was on the air in 1977. It focused on the lives of the Mulligan Family. Lawrence Pressman starred as Michael Mulligan, a high school teacher and football coach and Elinor Donahue played his wife, Jane, who also worked outside of the home.
Michael and Jane had three children, Mark, Melinda and Jimmy, and it was hard to make ends meet even with three children of their own, but things got much tighter, both financially and roomwise, the day when the Mulligans took in their nephews and nieces, Adam (nicknamed, Moose), Polaris (nicknamed Polly), Stevie and Kimmy Freedman after Michael's sister and brother in-law were killed in an air-related accident. The Freedmans had also been in the process of adopting the Vietnamese-born Kimmy, at their untimely demise, so it then fell on Michael and Jane to finalize Kimmy's adoption. Oldest niece, Stevie Freedman, was played by former Partridge Family co-star, Suzanne Crough (who had played the youngest Partridge, Tracy). Being forced to compete with the Top 10 hit Three's Company and the Top 20 hit Soap both on ABC, and the Top 10 hits M*A*S*H and One Day at a Time both on CBS, all of which were in the same time slot, Mulligan's Stew was a ratings disaster and was cancelled before the end of the season.
