Mullaghbawn

Mullaghbawn (Irish language: An Mullach Ban meaning 'The White Hill') is a small village in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 402 people. It lies within the Newry and Mourne District Council area near Forkhill, at the base of Slieve Gullion. To the local people of the village, the correct spelling of it is "Mullaghbawn" despite different sources naming it otherwise. It is pronounced "Mulla-bawn".

  • Mullaghbawn Folk Museum is a traditional two roomed thatched farm house and out buildings, restored by the Mullaghbawn Historical Group during the 1970s and filled with artifacts depicting the social and economic life-styles of the people of the Ring of Gullion in the last century.
  • Tí Chulainn Cultural Activity Centre, host various exhibitions and offer accommodation and guided tours of the surrounding area.
  • Ballykeel Dolmen is near Mullaghbawn at the western foot of Slieve Gullion. It is an outstanding example of a Portal Tomb. The dolmen is made up of two portal stones with a sill between and a lower backstone supporting a huge capstone.
