Mukti is a Bengali movie to be directed by Goutam Halder who earlier directed the film Bhalo Theko (2002). The movie stars Soumitra Chatterjee, Tanuja and Vidya Balan in leads roles. This film is based on noted novelist Moti Nandi's short story Bijolibalar Mukti and shooting will start mid-January, 2008.[1]
Hasi (Vidya Balan) is a married woman with a kid who is a tenant in the house of Bijolibala (Tanuja), a staunch Hindu widow who lives with her brother (Soumitra Chatterjee) in a mansion in North Kolkata, known for its rigid adherence to old customs, convention and the caste system.Bijolibala is no exception, but she is popular in the neighbourhood because of her caring attitude despite the strict exterior. The turning point of the story comes when Hasi is asked to perform Lakshmi Pooja in Bijolibala's home. [2]
