Mukkunnu

Mukkunnu is a beautiful village in Pariyaram Panchayathu, Taliparamba in the Indian state of Kerala. It is blessed with an exquisite natural beauty coupled with a rich cultural heritage. The melodious drift of the Kuppam river, with the coconut lagoons and paddy fields, offers a breath-taking landscape, a rarity in the industrial environs of these days.

Mukkunnu is part of Pariyaram panchayath , Taliparamba Thaluku. More than half of Mukunnu is covered with a beautiful river, called 'Mukkunu river' alternatively called as Kuppam river. Mukkunnu has been in the forefront of cultural activities with a rich background. You can reach Mukkunnu either from Chudala bus stop on National Highway(NH17) or through North Kuppam bus stop.

Mukkunnu has an excellent Public Library which is a treasure trove of Malayalam literary works. This public library had played a crucial role before the penetration and accessibility of media to many households as it has provided a medium through which people has been accessing Radio(late 70s), Television( from early 80s), many leading newspapers and magazines published in kerala.

Nava Kerala Kala Samithi is one the leading public cultural organizations of Taliparamba. It has tremendously contributed towards the rich cultural heritage of Mukkunnu. In the early 80's through the 90’s, it was famous for its annual celebrations with Nadakam( Play). During this period, it was exciting to see talented actors from Mukkunnu spending days together, just to perform a grand stage show on the annual day in front of packed audience. Ever since the penetration of cable TV,movies and serials to many households like any other parts of kerala, the importance and interest of cultural activities has come down largely.
