[edit] Identity
The US Department of Defense was forced, by court order, to release the names of the captives taken in the "war on terror" who were held in Guantanamo. On April 20, 2006 they released a list of 558 names, nationalities and ID numbers, of all the captives whose status as "enemy combatants" had been reviewed by a Combatant Status Review Tribunal.[2] Twenty-five days later they released a list of 759 names, nationalities, ID numbers, dates of birth, and places of birth, of all captives who had been held in military custody in Guantanamo.[3]
There is no Guantanamo captive named Mukit Vohidov on either the official list released on April 20, 2007 or the official list released on May 15, 2007.[2][3]
[edit] Repatriation
The Tajikistani government has acknowledged that former Guantanamo captives named Mukit Vohidov and Ruhniddin Sharopov were repatriated in March 2007.[1]
[edit] Trial in Tajikistan
Radio Free Europe reported on August 7, 2007 that former Gunantanamo captives named "Ruhniddin Sharopov" and Mukit Vohidov were to stand trial in Tajikistan.[1] They were charged with
- illegally crossing the Tajik border into Afghanistan in early 2001;
- joining fighters of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan.
The report notes that another former Guantanamo captive, Ibrohim Nasriddinov, had recently been sentenced to 23 years for similar charges.[1]
Mukit Vokhidov and Rukhiddin Sharopov received sentences of 17 years on August 18, 2007.[4] The two men were convicted of serving as mercenaries.
