Mukerian is located at 31.95° N 75.62° E.[1] It has an average elevation of 245 metres (803 feet).

As of 2001 India census,[2] Mukerian had a population of 21,379. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Mukerian has an average literacy rate of 77%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 74%. In Mukerian, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

its an indrustial hub. in mukerian its around 30 rice mills from where almost all the rice is exported to middle east and Europe. Its also a main market for surrounding area. The Sub-District Mukerian is famous for its cummunal harmony and peace. Although relatively a small town but Mukerian is the biggest town for about 150 villages around it, thats why its pretty well known in Punjab. Mukerian is a very harmonious community where most of the people know each other very well. Youngsters get very good education and Mukerians are spread through out the world. There is a very famous Gurudwara (Sikh Temple)which was earlier the Fort of Maharaj Ranjit Singh's in-laws known as "Qila Atallgarh".

There are many showrooms like Koutons, Priknit and Charlie Outlaw which are under Bhagtan di Hatti Sangar Bazar Mukerian,the famous cloth merchant in India.

Mukerian Hydel Project is the one of the biggest irrigation project in India. There is a famous PONG Dam across river BEAS about 35 km from Mukerian. Mukerian is located on National_Highway_1A and about 450 km North from NEW DELHI. Mukerian is a Junction for Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Talwara and Jalandhar.

A "miraculous" famous Lord SHIVA temple in village "Kathgarh/ Mirthal", about 20 km from Mukerian. There is a natural Shiva Ling in the tample. Shiva-Parbati "PINDIES" (the holy stone) get apart in summer & get attached in the winter season. Thousands of devotees come here for worship and prayer. There is also an another famous temple in village DAGAN near Mukerian.

Mukerian falls under Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency which at present is holded by Mr Vinod Khanna who is a Bollywood Super Star.

Mukerian is Situated near the banks of river beas due to which it hold a big chunk of a very fertile land which can be harvested 3 to 4 times in a year.
