Muirdale Tuberculosis Sanatorium

Muirdale Tuberculosis Sanatorium, also called Muirdale Tuberculosis Hospital, was built in 1928 by Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. It is located near the corner of Highway 100 and Watertown Plank Road in Wauwatosa. It was named for the noted naturalist John Muir. It included the "Preventorium," a segment devoted to the treatment of young children.

The structure still remains. It closed as a tuberculosis hospital in the 1960s, and for a while was known as Rehab West, functioning as a care facility for elderly persons with mental illnesses. This facility, which had been slated for destruction in June 1992, was saved due to the efforts of historical preservationists and is now being used as part of the Milwaukee County Research Park, a business incubator.
