Muhtar Shahanov (Kazakh: Мұхтар Шаханов) (born 2 July 1942 in Otrar, Kazakhstan) [1] a prominent Kazakh writer, lawmaker, ambassador to Kyrgyzstan. Member of Parliament Majilis, Parliament of Republic of Kazakhstan, Editor-in-Chief of the Zhalyn Magazine.
Well known in Kazakhstan for his articles, which raised public awareness of the need for the protection of the Aral Sea has earned him worldwide recognition [2] and leading the commission [3] on Jeltoqsan tragedy. [1] [2] [3]
