From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Muhammed Abdul Ali (Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali Azim Jah) is the current Prince of Arcot, holding this title since July, 1993, upon demise of his father Ghulam Mohammed Abdul Khader. The family traces their origin back to second Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab.[1].

The Prince of Arcot is considered the "First nobleman in the Muslim community of South India", and in his capacity as the Prince of Arcot, Muhammed Abdul Ali heads a number of religious endowments, charitable organisations, and educational trusts; and also manages the wakf in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. The Prince of Arcot is ranked on par with the Cabinet ministers of the State in the Warrant of Precedence, the courtesy ranks accorded to officials and non-officials.
