Muhammad Abdul Haque(Bengali: মুহাম্মদ আব্দুল হক), widely known as M A Haque (এম এ হক), (born, July 1, 1954 in Balaganj Upazila,Sylhet, is a Bangladeshi politician from Sylhet Division, and a candidate for the next mayoral election of Sylhet City Corporation.[1]

[edit] Political career

Haque joined Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), one of the two major political parties of Bangladesh at its early stage and played a vital role to establish the organization in the territory[citation needed]. Haque served as the president for sylhet district BNP for more than twelve years.[2] He is also one of the six central organization secretaries of the four party alliances; last political alliance served as government.[citation needed]

Haque ran for the first Mayoral election of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) against Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran (March 20, 2003) [3], but could not face the victory due to severe internal disputes and conspiracies among the nationalists.[4] He was then somewhat sidelined in the field of nationalist politics. Recently, he appears to be important again by leading one of the factions of bnp with some bigwigs in the committee.[5]

Haque expressed his interest to participate the next mayoral election of SCC; and is considered to be the most powerful candidate for the run.[1]

[edit] Personal life

Haque is married and has two children.
