The Nuclear power station Mühleberg is located in the commune of Mühleberg in the canton Berne, Switzerland. It is approximately 2 km north of Mühleberg village on the Aare River.
A boiling water reactor built by the company General Electric with 355 MW of electrical output uses river for cooling. It produces 2.7 billion KWh of electricity per year and supplies over 600,000 people with power. Construction was begun in 1967, and operation started in 1972.
During the test operation in 1971 an accident occurred, but no radioactive substances escaped. During the 1990s, an earthquake caused cracks in the containment structure and complaints to be lodged.
