User talk:Mudbot
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?
The concern I have is that your name contains the word "bot", which is generally used to imply an automated account, such as User:Cluebot, which automatically reverts vandalism. Bot accounts require special approval to run, and so your name could cause some confusion and lead to a block. I'd rather this not have to happen.
I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.
You have several options freely available to you:
- If you can relieve my concern through discussing it here, I can stop worrying about it.
- If the two of us can't agree here, we can ask for help through Wikipedia's dispute resolution process, such as requesting comments from other Wikipedians. Wikipedia administrators usually abide by agreements reached through this process.
- You can keep your contributions history under a new username. Visit Wikipedia:Changing username and follow the guidelines there.

- Sorry to hear that you had so much trouble finding a name - if you want, you may be able to get one of those names you tried previously through the Usurpations process. If an account is somewhat old and doesn't have any contributions, a Bureaucrat can help you take over that account and use it as your main account. You might want to give it a try. Me or another user monitoring you isn't really an option, as we all have other things to do, and all it would take would for an admin to notice your name and block you without checking into the situation. I'd highly recommend you look into changing your name if you wish to continue editing. Cheers, Hersfold (t/a/c) 15:20, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Band name capitalization
Hi there. Regarding this, the capitalization of band names is normalized on Wikipedia. Please see WP:MUSTARD#Capitalization. Have a nice day. --PEJL 05:35, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
