Halaelurus lutarius Springer & D'Aubrey, 1972 |
The mud catshark, Halaelurus lutarius, is a cat shark of the family Scyliorhinidae, found in the western Indian Ocean from Mozambique and Somalia between latitudes 13° N and 29° S, at depths of between 340 and 765 m. Its length is up to 34 centimetres.
The mud catshark is a slender catshark with a moderately long snout and short labial furrows, and a caudal fin without crest of enlarged denticles. It is found on the continental slope on or just above muddy substrates. It feeds on cephalopods, small bony fishes, and crustaceans, and is probably caught with bottom trawls.
Coloration is dull grey-brown, paler ventrally, with a few poorly defined dorsal saddles that may be visible.
