If expectorants should not be confused with mucolytic agents, then why does "expectorants" redirect to "mucolytic agents"? I myself am not that knowledgeable in pharmacology so I do not dare to change anything. Simonsimpson 08:04, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Expectorants do not increase mucus but instead reduce the viscosity and adhesiveness of the secretions. True, expectorants should not be confused with mucolytics, but they are similar in their pharmacologic effect. This is confusing (especially for a layman like me) I searched for "Expectorant" and it redirected to "Cough Medicine". Thinking that it maybe linked to a more full explanation, I clicked on the link for "Expectorants" (note the plural ending) within that article and it redirected me to here... and this article says that Mucolytic agents shouldn't be confused with expectorants! Am I alone in thinking this looks sloppy? I'm not sure how to do redirects, so I'll leave this amusing scenario to someone with more expertise. 138.163.0.43 (talk) 20:47, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

agreed! I was looking up "DM" and cough syrups and related stuff, and the "expectorant" link got me here... and this article is clinical/technical I am confused now as to what mucolytics are vs. expectorants. 199.214.26.41 (talk) 16:17, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Citations Please

This article is severely lacks citation, and some of the information is just wrong. Robitussin is not the same as codeine! I am also removing the reference to expectorants increasing mucus production as there is no citation. CelticLabyrinth (talk) 03:11, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
