Muayyed Nureddin

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mr. Nureddin, a Canadian citizen was held in the same Syrian prison as Maher Arar[1]. He was travelling to and from Iraq in 2003. He was questioned by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service when he left Toronto, searched in Turkey and arrested in Syria where he was allegedly tortured [2]. In 2006 the Canadian government initiated an independent inquiry to determine the facts leading to his detention in Syria [3] [4]. As of 09 January 2008, the Commission of Inquiry continues to hear arguments about procedural matters and "standards of conduct", before starting hearings into the substantive matters of concern to the inquiry and participants.[5]
