Muara karang

Muara Karang is an administrative village (kelurahan) of Penjaringan, North Jakarta that is predominantly residential. Originally most of the inhabitants are of Chinese ethnic immigrants from Medan who also run many Hokkien restaurants in nearby Muara Karang, in recent times however the settlement has attracted chinese immigrants from many other origins. The area also gained a growing reputation as a location of interest for the casual diners, due to the numerous new food outlets opened every year, resulting in a highly competitive market.

Currently Mega Mall is the current main shopping mall where that has Carrefour as the anchor tenant, cell phone shops, restaurants, cinema, furniture shops, and convention halls.

The latest addition to the area is the CBD Pluit, a huge mall, apartment building, department store, office complex and shops. Estimated completion on the second half of 2007, the project will definitely effect the nearby population's dynamics.
