Ukrainian Mobile Communications, UMC is the largest mobile operator in Ukraine with 19.8 million GSM subscribers (June 2007).[1]
In 1993, UMC was the first company to introduce mobile (cellular) services in Ukraine, initially in the analog NMT standard, then in GSM 900 and 1800. In October 2006, UMC terminated its NMT service with plans to use the spectrum for the CDMA-450 rollout. From late 2006, UMC has been developing the 3G mobile network in the CDMA-450 1xEV-DO standard. As of today, UMC network support various value-added services based on GPRS / EGPRS / EDGE and SMS / WAP / MMS / USSD. UMC is also a service provider of WiFi hotspots, mainly in large cities and airports.
The company's main competitors are Kyivstar and Astelit - life:).
UMC's network codes are +38050******* (postpay and prepaid users), +38066******* (prepaid JEANS users), +38095******* and +38099******* (prepaid Sim-Sim and JEANS users).
The company is fully owned by Russia's Mobile TeleSystems.
