[edit] Background

Originally called "Oshawa Catholic High School", the school was renamed after the late Msgr. Paul Dwyer who had not actually founded the school but petitioned constantly to have a Catholic school during his lifetime. Currently, Msgr. Paul Dwyer C.H.S. serves the Catholic population of northern Oshawa and other municipalities as far north as Port Perry. The school is one of seven secondary schools in the Durham Catholic District School Board.

[edit] Athletics

The school has a highly regarded Athletic program, lead by a traditionally STRONG football team. The school's sporting teams are called "The Dwyer Saints". In addition to football, the school puts together yearly hockey, basketball, volleyball, track and field, but do not offer rugby.

Dwyer has won several OFSAA (All Ontario)cross-country team championships and has several of its graduates attending American universities on full athletic scholarships.

In February 2008, the Dwyer Girls Hockey Team won the LOSSA Championships, earning themselves a gold medal; the first ever gold medal for Dwyer Girls Hockey Team in Dwyer history.

[edit] Performing Arts

The school is also known for its quality theatrical performances. In previous years the school has produced 'Les Miserables' (2006), 'Jesus Christ Superstar' (2005), 'The Miracle Worker' (2004), and 'Into the Woods' (2002). Mgsr. Paul Dwyer's most recent musical production, 'Grease' (2007), proved to be one of the school's best-selling productions to date, with many shows being sold-out, and because of this, an extra 7000 seats had to be added to accommodate the large interest in the musical. In the 2007-2008 school year, the school will be doing a re-make of the popular musical, 'Guys & Dolls'. The school had performed 'Guys & Dolls' in 1994, and has been one of the most outstanding musical productions in Dwyer history.
