From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mrs. Jay's Beer Garden was a popular, and legendary, bar in Asbury Park, NJ. The bar was the "original" The Stone Pony. However, in the 1960s, the bar was forced to close because of a waitress not wearing a top. The bar moved literally next door. It remained popular, drawing musical entertainment like Bruce Springsteen and The Secret Syde. It closed in 1988. Today, it is an empty lot surrounded by a fence.

Mrs.Jays was established in 1922 and located on Ocean and Second Ave. in what was once beautiful Asbury Park. It was located at the current location of The Stone Pony, next door was the Mrs. Jay's Beer Garden. When it went out of business in 68, the beer garden became Mrs. Jays a little later. and in 74 the old restaurant building became The Stone Pony.
