[edit] About Me
I was born in Miami, Florida and have lived there all my life. I live at home with my two parents and my younger sister. In Miami, I attended Christopher Columbus High School, where I was a Mas Scholar, and recently graduated seventh in a class of over 320. I was raised Roman Catholic, and have received many of the sacraments.
I am currently eighteen years old (almost eighteen) and I have just begun my life as a college student at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), where I have been awarded with a merit scholarship. At WPI, I will be majoring in Mathematics, and have already been accepted into a program where I can receive both my B.S. and M.S. in either industrial or financial math in only five years. At WPI, I will try and be active in many of the programs offered there, particularly in the Office of Diversity Programs. In that vein, I will be arriving on campus a week earlier than most other freshman to partipate in a special orientation in the Office's Excellence in Mathematics, Science, and Engineering Program (EMSEP).
Politically, I hold mostly conservative views, and I am registered as a Republican.
[edit] My Interests
Academically, my interests are not limited to mathematics. Though math will be my major, I also have interests in other sciences, including Computer Science and (to a lesser extent) Physics. At WPI, my humanties requirement is to create a concention by taking six "thematically related" courses, and I have decided to make that concentration in Writing and Rhetoric along with some Philosophy.
I have other interests outside of the academic world as well. I enjoy TV, movies, my laptop, and simply hanging out, among other things. My favorite TV shows include LOST, Seinfeld, Monk, Law & Order: SVU, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Mind of Mencia, South Park, and Family Guy. I have seen many movies that I like and therefore will not post all of them at this time (though maybe later).
Recently, I have developed a major interest in aviation, particularly commercial aviation in the United States. This has led me to research a great deal into the facts and figures of many US (as well as foreign) airports, airlines, and aircraft, using Wikipedia as a major source (this site is actually a lot more reliable than most people think). As a result, almost all of my Wikipedia contributions have been aviation related articles. Other sources for my aviation research include airlines', airports', etc. own websites, particularly the press release sections. However, my favorite source by far is Airliners.net, an amazing website that not only has an active forum written by fellow aviation enthusiasts who, for the most part, really know their stuff, but also has a very comprehensive photo database that can be used to prove whether a particular airline or aircraft ever served an airport, or if an airline ever operated a specific aircracft type. I personally don't have an account and don't contribute, but I find its free resources extremely useful.
