[edit] Hunter articles

I left notes in all my edits with name changes to refer to notes left on the talk page here. It would be poliet if you could actually read the notes left on the talk pages (as indicated on all my edits) instead of just ignoring the explainations?

[edit] Hazama Nobunaga

I noticed this edit of yours regarding Nobunaga.

Is this because ViZ's most recent release of Vol-12 has "Nobunaga Hazama", or because you believed Nobunaga to be his given name? --`/aksha 09:31, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I realized that the romaji for the name has the = sign in between it. That indicates that the name written in the correct order. It's the same for Gon, Killua, Kuroro, etc. Plus, in his bio page for the Hunter's Guide, his name is listed as "Nobunaga Hazama" in English. I have not even seen Volume 12 in English yet, so I didn't realize the release contained it.

I see, sorry for bothering you then. The standard here is also to use the western ([given name] [surname]) order. --`/aksha 06:55, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hunter Volumes

Do you own the English Viz Hunter x Hunter volumes? I would appreciate it if you could correct the rest of the English chapter titles in the Hunter x Hunter chapter list. Also for the book citations, is there a guideline that says citations should be from English versions? I didn't use the book citation style, but I was using the Japanese volumes when I wrote the references. It also seems more consistent since a good number of the references are from books not published in English. -Zyrxil (talk) 20:00, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

All of the other chapters are from the Viz version, actually. It was only the first volume that was not, strangely enough.
I don't believe that there is a guideline that says citations should be from English versions. Also, browsing through the Naruto and Bleach pages just for examples, they actually include book citations from both the English and Japanese volumes. But consistency is the key, so whatever works is fine. Should I revert them to the other style?-Mr. Toto (talk) 20:13, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
Hrm, that is pretty weird. As for the references, I'll change the info, I just didn't know there were such things as a specific book style citation when I wrote those. -Zyrxil (talk) 20:27, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Nen Abilities

How does Viz present the names of the various HxH Nen abilities? I've never figured out a really good, yet not extremely long, format for presenting Nen ability names, what with the author's intended pronunciation, then the kanji "explanation"/definition of the ability. Example of what I'm using right now: Little Flower (「一握りの火薬」A Handful of Gunpowder), which leaves out the Katakana altogether for just the pronunciation. -Zyrxil (talk) 23:13, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

In the Viz volumes, both are translated. The meaning of the Kanji is posted either directly before or after the Katakana reading of the attack. For example, in the Viz version of Volume 18, the attack is written as "Little Flower: A Handful of Gunpowder." -Mr. Toto (talk) 23:21, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
I guess that is the most "complete" way, but Little Flower: "A Handful of Gunpowder" (リトルフラワー:「一握りの火薬」) looks sort of weird. Not only that, it drives me nuts there's no way to make it obvious it's not actually a name and a subtitle, but a pronunciation and a "definition". -Zyrxil (talk) 02:57, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Today's HxH edits

Hey, I'm putting this here again instead of on the various specific talk pages because I don't know if you watch any of them.

Anyway, first, for the Chimera Ants: -Is "Squadron Leader" the Viz official translation for division commander? What do they use for Squad Captain? It sounds a little weird using "squad" in both titles. -Could you not remove the animanga info boxes please? They could probably all use cleaning up, obvious info like creator and series omitted, but first/last appearance is useful, as well as voice actors when the later arcs get animated. They're also where character pics'll be whenever I decide to stop being lazy, and copy/paste fair-use justifications a dozen times for character pics.

For your edit of Bisuke's esthetician (I did not even know that was a word) ability: -on Pg. 129 of Vol 17, at least in the Japanese version, the ability's pronunciation is specifically given as just "Magical Esteh" and Bisuke says "[Magical Este]'s Cookie-chan". Is that totally different in the Viz version?

And, while I'm asking stuff of you, can you look up what words does Viz use in the first arc when referring to "examinees"/"exam-givers"? And what do they call each test in the Hunter exam? E.g. Trick Tower is the third...Exam/Test/Round/Other? What do they call the fox-kiriko navigators? And what do they call the Inijyuu in York Shin? Shadow Beasts?

Thanks. -Zyrxil (talk) 23:03, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

The Magical Esthetician name actually wasn't in Viz's version at all; they have her listed as "Cookie, the Magical Masseuse." I looked up "エステ" in a Japanese dictionary to find out what it meant exactly. It's another word for a beauty specialist, apparently. "エステ" is short for "esthetician", similar to how "コンビニ" is short for "convenience store" in Japanese.
Division Commanders are known as "Squadron Leaders." For "Squad Captain," the rank is just given as an "Officer." I was basically just being consistent with the opening paragraph I had written earlier, since I only have the Viz version to work with. If incorrect, we can change it back.
As for the infoboxes, forgive me for removing those. I only did so for characters that were already deceased or weren't important enough to have one, attempting it to look more similar to manga articles with GA statuses.
I'll have to check the first arc stuff in a week or two--at the moment, I don't have access to volumes prior to 15. But when I do, I'd be more than happy to list those. I'm also pretty sure that the Injuu are listed as "Shadow Beasts" in the viz version. The navigators are for sure just called "kiriko." -Mr. Toto (talk) 02:47, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
