[edit] History
The Ska-Band Mr. Review was founded in 1983 in Amsterdam. Drummer Roel Ording and guitarist Arne Visser had been in a band before when they met singer 'Dr. Rude'. The three guys shared the same love for Ska and Reggae. They soon found a keyboarder and a saxophone player and started the band. Arne Visser was always the main song writer. Concerts in local pubs were then followed by a contract at Unicorn Records, London, where the legendary album 'Walking Down Brentford Road' was released. Brentford Road is the address of Jamaica's legendary Studio One, where great Ska legends recorded their songs. The album's title is the band's tribute to these fathers of Ska and Reggae.
Their debut album was very successful and the band travelled to play live at many festivals in Europe. Their great show led to their fame within the international Ska scene.
The band's music is Ska including a great brass section. The lyrics are more earnest than you might expect listening to their happy Ska tunes. The band doesn't want to preach, so they say, but 'a little brainfood won't do wrong these days'.
In 1994 the second album 'Lock, Stock and Barrel' was recorded. International fanzines called it the year's best Ska release. In 1995 the live album 'Keep The Fire Burning' followed and it makes one feel the great atmosphere at Mr. Review's concerts.
After the band stopped playing together, Arne Visser and Dr. Rude continued in a new band called "Rude & Visser".[2]
