Mpigi District

Mpigi is a district in central Uganda. Like other Ugandan districts, it is named after its 'chief town'. The 'chief town' of Mpigi is located approximately 35km south of the capital city Kampala. Mpigi district has a total area of 3,714.94 sq. km. The population of Mpigi, as of the 2002 Population and Housing Census, was 407,790. Mpigi is primarily a rural district, with only 8.4% of the population living in urban areas.
