Manjunath Pendakur is professor of Radio-Television and Dean of the College of Mass Communication & Media Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Illinois, USA. He earned his Ph.D. degree at Simon Fraser University and has taught at several universities in the US and Canada including Northwestern University, the Pennsylvania State University, the University of Washington, University of Western Ontario, and Southern Illinios University Carbondale.

Manjunath Pendakur's research interests span media studies from the political economy perspective and his publications cover communications industries in the US, Canada, and India. His books include Indian Popular Cinema: Industry, Ideology and Consciousness, Canadian Dreams and American Control: The Political Economy of the Canadian Film Industry, and Citizenship and Participation in the Information Age. His current research is on globalization and the media in India.

Manjunath Pendakur gained professional media experience by working as associate director in the Indian film industry, and also as a cinematographer in the US television news industry. He has traveled extensively for research in Africa and Asia and has given academic lectures in several countries in the world.
