MPB mine
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The MPB is a Polish off-route anti-tank mine. The mine consists of a cylinder mounted horizontally in a heavy steel frame, which is used to aim the mine. It uses a Misznay Schardin effect warhead to project an armour piercing metal slug to an effective range of around 50 meters where it can penetrate up to 100 millimeters of armour. The mine can be triggered by either a contact fuse or a passive infra-red sensor, and is also fitted with an anti-handling device.
When used with the passive infra-red fuse, an acoustic sensor detects approaching vehicles and activates the infra-red sensor, which triggers the mine at the optimal moment as the vehicles pass. The mine can be programmed to self destruct after either 1, 10 or 30 days have passed.
