The MP 59 is a rubber tired variant of electric multiple units used on Paris's Métro system, and is the oldest type still in regular passenger service. They was first introduced in 1963 when the busiest routes of Lines 1 and 4 where converted to rubber tyred pneumatic operation. 52 trains operated on Line 1, and they were refurbished between 1989 and 1992 in readiness for the extension of Line 1 to La Defense. 22 of these refurbished cars were transferred to Line 11 from 1995 after the delivery of the newer MP 89 to Line 1. The unrefurbished cars on line 4 were scrapped.

Montreal Metro has a forked version named MR 63.

Mexico City Metro has a forked version named MP 68.
