Moyock, North Carolina

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Moyock (IPA: /moʊjɒk/) is an unincorporated community in Currituck County, North Carolina. It is located on NC 168 just south of the Virginia state line. The community sits at the end of the Chesapeake Expressway toll road, and is only a short drive from downtown Norfolk, Virginia. Because of this, Moyock has begun to witness an increase in residential development as an emerging bedroom community for Hampton Roads.

Moyock also contains a number of facilities related to Blackwater USA, a private security company that provides training for United States military and police forces and supplies private paramilitary forces in Iraq and other theaters. The company maintains a 7,000 acre training center in the town on Puddin Ridge Road.[1]

[edit] Connection to NASCAR

  • Moyock had a race track called Dog Track Speedway. It hosted NASCAR races in 1961-65. Ned Jarrett won the most races at the track and second to him is Richard Petty with one win. The track was closed down after poor budgets and bigger tracks were being built.
