Moyle Park College

Moyle Park College is a secondary school in Clondalkin, South Dublin Ireland. The school was established by the Marist brothers in 1957 and grew rapidly in keeping with the local area.Many of its graduates have gone on to attend some of the world's most prestigious universities and have contributed widely to Irish public life.

The school however has in recent times faced major challenges due a change in the social composition of its students. A decision by the Irish government in the late 1970's to construct large amounts of social housing on the outskirts of Clondalkin has proved disastrous. This decision transplanted many of the social problems of Dublin's deprived inner city areas to the small village of Clondalkin. Many of Moyle Park's students now come from these social housing projects meaning the school now obtains a great proportion of its students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds^[1].This puts additional pressure on already stretched resources.Moyle Park's experience reflects that of the wider Clondalkin community.

In recent times improvements in Ireland's economic health^[2] are easing these problems.The rapid growth in the construction of private residential housing in the area is reinvigorating the social mix in Clondalkin. This should ease the pressure on Moyle Park and allow it to regain its past academic standing.

In 2007 Moyle Park celebrated its Golden Jubilee.^[3] On 13 October there was a special ceremony in the sports hall, attended by President Mary McAleese who also opened the Golden Jubilee Garden.
