Awalt High School's mascot was always a Spartan. Old Mountain View High School was known as the Eagles, while Los Altos High School were the Knights. When old Mountain View HS closed, the Eagle moniker went to Los Altos HS, while Awalt simply changed names.
As in most cities, the mayor of Mountain View has nothing to do with any school functions. The person in the position has no power to purge students from the high school or district who do not have the right to attend. That is up to the school board and superintendent.
