Talk:Mount Fuji Radar System
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I can't believe they decommissioned this radar. I was with the USAF weather service at Yokota from 1978 - 1982 and relied heavily on this radar. We began to receive satellite pictures, probably around 1980, once a day but never dreamed it would take the place of radar.
It was decomissioned in 1999. The radome was relocated as the memorial museum in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi in 2001. Summit observations were limited to unmanned surface observation. The replacement radars for Mt. Fuji were built in Kikukawa, Shizuoka and Chino, Nagano for regional observation. The geostationary satellite pictures are received hourly (as of 2007.) --Soredewa (talk) 05:08, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
