[edit] Mission Statement
Mountainview International Christian School partners with parents, sending agencies, the Christian community and the Church to train up and educate children in a Christ-centered environment at an affordable cost.
[edit] History
The school began as the vision of missionaries to give their children a Christian education and to prepare them for the world. In the fall of 1981, the school began in a small, rented house as Central Java Inter-Mission School ("CJIMS"). The school had fifteen students and three teachers.
Soon the number of students grew, and the original rented house grew crowded. The school relocated to a second house in a village area. When the school was moved, the original house was refurbished as the first dormitory.
More teachers and even more students came from many nations. By 1986, the second school building had also become insufficient for the increasing student population. A high school facility was built on a piece of rented land not far from the second school building. The elementary remained in the second school for a time, but two years later a large plot of land was purchased by the organizing foundation and a new elementary school was built to accommodate the increasing number of students and staff. The second school building became a second dormitory. The new school campus was opened in 1990.
Since 1990, there has been continual construction on the campus, which has expanded to 13.5 acres. The land was cleared and four dorms, a high school, a soccer field and track, an auditorium, a lunch pavilion, more elementary buildings, and a two-court gym have been built.
In 2002, the name of the school was changed to the Mountainview International Christian School.
In March 2007, MICS celebrated its 25th Anniversary.
[edit] Curriculum
The curriculum at MICS is American, with a Christian basis and using materials from both Christian and secular publishers. All students take classes in subjects such as English, mathematics, history, sciences, and foreign languages. To provide an array of broadening experiences for students, fine arts, physical education, computer and various elective classes are part of the weekly curriculum.
MICS seeks to prepare students for entry into North American higher educational systems.
Bible reading, scripture memory and prayer are a part of every school day at Mountainview. In view of this, an applicant should consider the following items:
1. Enrollment in the school constitutes an agreement by the parents and the student to participate in Christian teaching and activities. 2. All instruction at Mountainview is Christian in nature, but is non-denominational and non-creedal. 3. All students must actively participate in Bible classes, morning devotions, Bible memory work, and other religious activities of the school. Students are not required to repeat the religious pledges, but they must stand and show respect for those who do. 4. The Bible instructor or classroom teacher may ask each student to prepare for and participate in devotional programs.
[edit] Athletics
MICS is a member of the Indonesian International Small Schools Activities Conference, or IISSAC. MICS participates in the soccer and basketball events. Swimming was recently introduced but participation in that event is not as common.
In 2007, MICS hosted the IISSAC basketball tournament and won first-place trophies for both boys' & girls' basketball.
[edit] Clubs & Events
MICS offers students the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities such as drama club and worship dance team. Events include the Field Day, sports tournaments (school-wide as well as IISSAC), the Christmas Concert & Bazaar, school retreats.
[edit] Alumni
Graduates of MICS go on to universities around the world. Most go to the United States, but a number have gone on to universities in South Korea, Australia, Canada, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Former students often visit the school around graduation in May.
