[edit] History

Initially designated "High School No. 6" in Douglas County School District's long-range plans, Mountain Vista High School was named such in 2000. Its mascot was originally going to be a Demon but the Golden Eagles name was chosen as a result of the less Satanic name and the fact that Colorado already has a high school whose mascot is an Eagle (no "Golden"). [2] The school opened in August 2001 and saw its first graduating class in 2005.

[edit] Sports

Mountain Vista High School participates at the 5A level in all sports. Athletic offerings include soccer, cross country, baseball, softball, field hockey, basketball, football, volleyball, gymnastics, track, swimming, diving, wrestling, tennis, cheerleading, poms, and lacrosse. Both the varsity baseball and women's soccer programs have achieved notoriety as both have proceeded deep into their respective finals and are consistently rated at the top of their respective divisions. Also cheer has won state in the 5A division in 2007 and 2008 while poms has won state in 2006 and regionals in 2007. Both poms and cheer were in the top 10 in nationals in 2006.

Mountain Vista football had success in 4A and continued to have success when it was moved to 5A for the 2005 season due to increased enrollment. Mountain Vista maintains a rivalry with local Thunder Ridge High School in all sports. After losing for the first time in the 2006 season to Chaparral High School, Mountain Vista rebounded by defeating defending state champion Douglas County High School 7-6. The Golden Eagle victory ended a 20-game winning streak for the Huskies. Their season was then ended by the Huskies in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.

Mountain Vista also maintains a combined rugby union team with local Thunder Ridge High School. The team known as the Greagles had its best season in 2007 when it lost twice and tied once during its 10 game season. The team was seeded 14th out of 26 by ERRFU but lost one of its games in the state qualifier.

In 2005, Mountain Vista girls soccer team defeated Arapahoe High School for the 5A state title.[3]

In 2006, Mountain Vista cheer and poms both took state championship titles on December 1st, 2007. This is the first time in CHSAA history that one school simultaneously held both cheer and pom state titles.

Mountain Vista also fields nearly half of the participants of the Highlands Ranch Unified Swim and Dive Team (includes Thunder Ridge, Rock Canyon & Highlands Ranch as well) which took 5th in State(2008).
