[edit] Evergreen School Program

Moundain Park Elementary is an Evergreen School. This means that they are a dedicated community that helps to protect and learn more about the local environment. Mountain Park is a part of the Keep Sandy Springs North Fulton Beautiful/City of Roswell/City of Alpharetta coalition. In 2004, an Adopt-a-Stream Program was established, a recycling program was implemented, and a beautification day was performed.

[edit] Adopt-a-Stream

MPE continues to monitor Rocky Creek through the Adopt-a-Stream program. Both water quality monitoring and biological assessments are performed. Since its inception, scout troops and other volunteer group have performed the adopt-a-stream monitoring.

[edit] Recycling

Mountain Park continues to recycle paper, ink cartridges and sneakers. Paper recycling bins are located in every classroom, office and work room. Students and teachers place all refuse paper into those bins. They are collected by volunteers and picked up by the City of Roswell each week. Ink cartridges are donated by families and by the school and are sent to a recycling center and a fee is given to MPE in return. A collection bin is located in the PTA office. Tennis shoes are collected twice a year. The shoes are then taken to Nike Town where they are then brought to a recycling center.
