Mountain Park, Alberta

Mountain Park is a ghost town in western Alberta, south of Cadomin, at the end of the historic 'Coal Branch' line of the Canadian National Railway, formerly known as the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway.
Coal production began here in 1914, after the railway was completed.[1] (Another source cites 1912 as the start of coal production).[2] Mountain Park closed in 1950, as mining in the area ceased, and the town was quickly abandoned. Almost nothing remains of Mountain Park today, except for a restored cemetery, and a few other remnants of the mine. At its peak, the town was home to about 1,500 residents.[3]
At an elevation of 6,200 feet, it was known as the highest town in Canada.
Mountain Park is now the site of another coal mining operation, the Cheviot Mine, which opened in 2004.
