After winning the season opener against Bishop-Blanchet High School 28-14, the Bulldogs dropped 3 games in succesion to Lynden, Burlington-Edison, and Blaine. They then won 4 games in a row including wins against then No. 8 Fife, and 3A league wins over Squalicum and Sedro-Woolley. For the 3A League title game, the Bulldogs played Ferndale, who had never allowed an opponent within 17 points of a win and were undefeated. Although the Bulldogs led 10-7 into the 4th quarter, the Golden Eagles pulled out a win in OT 13-10.

The Bulldogs won againts No. 10 Renton in the first round of the 3A WIAA playoffs before losing to Ferndale again 14-0 in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

The year was largely successful as Mount Vernon won its first playoff game in over 25 years, and named 9 players to the 3A All-Conference Team, including nose tackle Danial Osburn who was the consensus All-State Defensive Lineman choice to represent the 3A conference in the Seattle Times 3A All-State game.
