[edit] History
Mount Scopus Memorial College was opened on St Kilda Road in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia for its first school year in 1949, taking its name from Mount Scopus in Jerusalem, which remained in Israeli control during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a war memorial school dedicated to the memories of soldiers who have fought for the Nation of Israel. The first co-educational Jewish day school in Melbourne, it initially catered to 143 students, and was built to cope with the influx of Holocaust survivors to the Melbourne community. The college moved to a larger campus in Burwood on Burwood Highway in 1953. There are also campuses in East St Kilda and South Caulfield, until 1996 there was a branch in Kew.
Scopus, as it is commonly known is famous for outstanding VCE (matriculation) results, not just compared with other Jewish schools, but throughout Victoria. It is routinely listed as one of the top schools in the state.
