Mount Saint Dominic Academy is a four-year Catholic high school for women located in Caldwell, New Jersey, United States, serving students in grades 9-12. The school was founded in 1892 by the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell.[2]

As of the 2005-06 school year, the school had an enrollment of 335 students and 37.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 9.0.[1]

The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools since 1934.[2] Mount Saint Dominic Academy is a member of the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools and is located within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. Sr. Fran is the principal of this school that is known to 'empower young women'. The school has a graduation rate, as well as a college acceptance rate of 100%. Students are accepted into and attend some of the most highly regarded colleges and universities, such as Brown, Cornell, Columbia, Tufts, Colgate, Bucknell, Georgetown, UPenn, Notre Dame, Rutgers, New York University, Penn State, Boston College, Villanova, Sarah Lawrence, Amherst, Northeastern, Loyolla-Maryland, Fairfield, Fordham, Marist, and many more.

[edit] Admission/Academics

MSDA is considered a selective secondary school in the North Jersey region regarding academics. A student is required to take the COOP entrance exam as a placement test to be considered for admission. Students must abide by the rules and regulations of the "Student Hand Book." Majority of the congregation remain on honoroll throughout their four year attendance. Students are offered Advanced Placement courses if they fit the criteria to be admitted into one, such as AP Bio, AP Lit, AP History, AP Calculus, and AP Art. Students, depending on their grade year, are also required to complete a specific amount of community service hours, known as "Siena Service," after Saint Catherine of Siena.

The Mount Saint Dominic Academy Lady Lions compete in the Northern Hills Conference an athletic conference of private and public high schools located in Essex, Morris and Passaic County Counties in Northern New Jersey. The league operates under the supervision of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA). The Mount offers a variety of both Varsity and JV teams, including sports such as Softball, Soccer, Basketball, Lacrosse, Track, Cross Country, Tennis, Volleyball, Swimming, Cheerleading, and even Golf. Generally speaking, MSD excells in athletics.

The softball team won the Non-Public North A state sectional championship in 2005 with a 4-0 win against Immaculate Heart Academy in the tournament final.[3] The team took the 2006 title with a 3-2 win vs. IHA.[4] The team won the title again in 2007, edging Immaculate Heart Academy 1-0 in the tournament final.[5] The team moved on win the Group II State Championship with a 2-0 win over St. Joseph High School.[6]

The tennis team won the 2000 Parochial A North Sectional state championship with a 4-1 win over Pingry School.[7] The team won the Group A State Championship with a 4-1 win against Holy Spirit High School.[8]

Mount Saint Dominic is not only famous for its academic and athletic achievements, but for its successes in the Arts and Musical fields. Along with a school choir and band, MSDA offers Blue Note and Belle voix, vocal groups for advanced singers. Many of its students perform at school events, including the annual Variet Show. Students are also able to take artistic classes such as Photography, AP Art, Graphic Design, and others.
