Mount Mitchill
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mount Mitchill in Atlantic Highlands, Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States, at 266 feet (81 meters), is the second highest point on the Eastern Seaboard from the Yucatan Peninsula to Cadillac Mountain, that is within twenty-five miles from the coast. Mt. Mitchill, however, is closer to the shoreline than Cadillac Mountain and any of the coastal cliffs north of Brazil. [1][2][3]. It has a panoramic view of Raritan Bay, New York City and Sandy Hook and is near the Twin Lights Lighthouse in Highlands. It is also the location of the Monmouth County 9-11 Memorial. It was named after Samuel Latham Mitchill, who determined the height of the hill.
