Mount Carmel School

Mount Carmel School was established in South Delhi, India on July 10th 1972, with just twelve students. With a second branch in Dwarka it has now grown to total over 3000 students. Offering courses in science, commerce and humanities, the co-educational institution affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The principal Mr. V.K. Williams has a reputation of a strict disciplinary approach—a reputation which precedes the school's. The schools are run by a registered educational society called Mount Carmel School Society and recalls a Protestant church-based organization.

[edit] Anand Niketan

The first branch of the school was established Anand Niketan in July 1972, with 12 students. This branch currently has nearly 2,500 students, a staff of 150 and two buildings: the Junior School, housing students from nursery to Class III; and the Senior School for Classes IV to Class XII.

The management of the Anand Niketan is actively involved in an adult literacy programme. Students from Class XI visit Kanak Durga slum dwellers three times each week, working on the basis of "each one teach one DONATE SOME".

The Dwarka branch was established in April 1997, in the silver jubilee year of the original school. The original 165 student body has grown to approximately 1,800 following an upgrade to Secondary level. Following a move to an independent site in April 2002, a pre-school block was opened two years later after collecting tons of donations. The school is due to be upgraded to Senior Secondary in 2006.
